"Buzzard Point Social condemns all acts of racism. The allegations levied at Taxiarchis Fountas in the Athletic are especially abhorrent considering a slur was used against his own teammate. We support Nigel Robertha and applaud him for his actions as reported in the Athletic. This is the 2nd strike against Fountas and it shouldn't have come to that. We believe the allegations in the Athletic. When coupled with the dismissal of the chief athletic trainer, it shows a troubling pattern at DC United. The ownership, and soccer operations clearly have a blind spot when it comes to racial bias.
Buzzard Point Social calls on all DC United fans and supporters to be silent for the first 19 minutes of the Leagues Cup match vs Pumas on Saturday, July 29th in support of Nigel Robertha. Furthermore, we demand the immediate dismissal of Taxiarchis Fountas from the club, and that no discipline be given to Nigel Robertha. We will be watching the leagues response to these allegations and the subsequent investigation very closely and will consider more action in conjunction with the other supporters groups in the Chico Stand upon the conclusion of the leagues investigation. Hate of any stripe does not belong in soccer or in wider society. We demand that our club be better than this, and we look forward to helping the club be a welcoming place for anyone who does not hold hate in their hearts. -Buzzard Point Social
